I am a jack of all trades cloud engineer. I have a broad range of experiences, from app development to big data. A common denominator between these experiences is that most of it has been built using cloud technologies, especially AWS. Regarding domain knowledge, my work has mostly centered around the automotive industry. My professional mantra is outcome, to chase outcome over output. In conjunction with competence, this outcome-centric mindset creates a strong foundation for generating value. On top of this, I have obtained 5 AWS certifications. My technical depth lies within big data and cloud architecture. On a personal note, I’m curious and open to new experiences.

Experience

Cloud Architect

Buzzcloud

As a specialist AWS consultant, I'm focusing on driving cloud adoption with AWS well-architected framework as a guiding mindset. I'm working with various clients ranging from finance to automotive, where the size of the companies can be a startup or an enterprise client. The technologies previous and current clients have involved:

  • · Serverless - Advocate for leveraging managed and serverless services; this enables teams to unlock resources to drive business opportunities instead of simply keeping the lights on.
  • · IoT - A greenfield initiative to create an IoT device fully integrated with a CI/CD pattern able to receive over-the-air updates.
  • · Enterprise Network - Managing large-scale networking using Transit Gateway and Direct Connect.
  • · Database migration - Moving from on-prem self-hosted databases to cloud-native solutions without downtime.

Cloud & Data Architect

Netlight

Netlight is an IT consultant company where I worked as a data and cloud architect. As a data architect, I was responsible for the technology stack and data strategy. The tech stack involved AWS, Snowflake, dbt, and spark. Working with data strategy led me to dive into higher-level topics such as data governance and team topologies to find actionable insights that drive business value. As a cloud architect, I supported teams with cloud development and migrations. Most of the role revolved around coaching, defining best practices, and empowering the product teams. I occasionally held activities such as hackathons and workshops.

Data Engineer

Scania Group

As a data engineer at Scania, I built a data warehouse from the ground up for analysts at Scania. When I started, the only thing that existed was a PoC, and being part of something from the beginning was exciting. My work involved building AWS infrastructure that supports the operations and ETL of the warehouse, as well as designing and maintaining the warehouse in Snowflake.

Scania Engineer Program

Scania Group

I was fortunate to participate in a ten-month trainee program focused on engineering skills. I gravitated toward cloud development and data science during the entire program. This fantastic period resulted in many new friendships, challenges, and new experiences.

Consultant

Alten

I worked as a System Design Engineer at SAAB Aeronautics, which gave me insight into the aerospace industry. I had the technical responsibility in a procurement team. The most demanding part of the role was the judicial aspect after realizing the importance of wording in every conversation and email. The end customer where USAF (U.S. Air Force), which elevated this fact.

Master Thesis

Scania Group

I developed a machine learning algorithm for monitoring the tire pressure in heavy-duty vehicles. This method uses estimations over states that correlate with the tire inflation pressure, alleviating the need for tire sensors. The thesis resulted in a patent.

Portfolio

Personal AWS setup

DevOps & Cloud Architecture
I have a personal enterprise-grade AWS setup. Through utilizing AWS organizations, I have a personal dev, test and prod account, making my developer experience on par with or better than most corporations. Contact me for read-only access to look at my cloud setup at https://tormod.awsapps.com/start#/. To complete my setup, I have a private gitlab runner to use CI/CD pattern.

App Development

Iphone App
I have created my own iPhone app. It is a basic app to track your Christmas or birthday wish list. The app was, however, an experiment with technologies such as react native, aws amplify, appsync, graphQL, and microsoft appcenter. The purpose was to learn how to develop an app from end to end. I even created an integrated CI/CD pipeline that included testing in AWS Device farm and, after successful test later deployed to the App Store.

Web Development

React & SPA
Throughout the years, I have created multiple websites whenever a need for it has presented itself. It started with me wanting to understand the entire process of web development, and my first website was to create a quiz. All websites are created using javascript and react with AWS S3 + cloudfront hosting.

Interests

Apart from being a software developer, I spend most of my with my wife and son. Together, we enjoy the northern part of Sweden hiking, running, and skiing for fun as well as exercise. I'm aspiring trailrunner. My longest race is a 27 km trail stretching over three mountain tops. However, I have my eye on the next race.

Otherwise, I am often intrigued by science, sci-fi and in general "difficult-to-answer questions". Spending hours listening to podcasts and watching documentaries. Once something has gotten my attention and interest, I go down the rabbit hole.
